apt for rpm based distributions
At these pages an attempt is made to introduce the Advanced Package Tool (APT), originally developed for the Debian Linux distribution, to users of rpm based Linux systems. The intention is to explain how to integrate/implement apt on an rpm based system. For the details about the usage of apt itself one is referred to the apt documentation, manual, howto, etc.
APT has been ported from Debian to the rpm based distribution of Conectiva. After the port completed succesfully, Conectiva now uses APT as package management in their distribution. So why is apt4rpm still needed, you may ask? It's not needed anymore for the Conectiva distribution, but for all the other rpm based distributions.

DiskDrake
The purpose of the DiskDrake project is to make hard disk partitioning easier. It is graphical, simple and powerful. The license is the GPL. It can: create partitions - delete partitions - change type of partition - format partitions - assign a mount point - propose a list of classic mount points and verify the mount point is valid - mount partitions - resize fat partitions - resize partitions (when not caring loosing its data) - clear partition table - auto allocation (useful for install) - write fstab

GNU GRUB is a Multiboot boot loader. It was derived from GRUB, GRand Unified Bootloader, which was originally designed and implemented by Erich Stefan Boleyn.
Briefly, boot loader is the first software program that runs when a computer starts. It is responsible for loading and transferring control to the operating system kernel software (such as the Hurd or the Linux). The kernel, in turn, initializes the rest of the operating system (e.g. GNU).

X - the basis for linux' graphical user interfaces

The X Window System, known simply as "X", is a portable, network-transparent window system which runs on many different computers. It is frequently used in conjunction with the UNIX operating system - often including XFree86, a freely available implementation of X.
There have been numerous versions of the X Window System, but it was not until the eleventh version, known simply as "X11", that it was widely released and began to gain the popularity it enjoys today.

The page Window Managers for X offers a good introduction and overview over the variety of X window managers and desktops.

selectwm
This is a small application (using GTK+) which lets you select your window manager. It looks for a file named .selectwmrc in the user's directory which contains a list of window managers. When you start X it should show a list which lets you choose your window manager (by double clicking on it with the mouse or with the arrow keys and the return or space key)

If you haven't tried the other environments, you should. IceWM, XFCE, Blackbox, and WindowMaker without KDE are all good choices. All have text-file-based menus, so they're easy to trim and customise. Ice, XFCE and Blackbox are much smaller and faster than KDE or Gnome. All will run KDE- or Gnome-based apps if you have the libraries installed.
Ice is my choice, for ease of hot-key configuration (I'm too lazy to reach for the mouse), speed and simplicity. Unfortunately, it looks a lot like Windows.
XFCE is also small & fast, has sound effects out-of-the-box, and is very easy to customise. Blackbox takes a little more skill to customize, but is the best choice if you don't have much memory, or a slow CPU.
WindowMaker is the prettiest & most polished.
They're all attractive, and they all have their points. As has been suggested, set up a bunch of user accounts, and give each a different windowmanager/environment. See which YOU like best.
